Instructions for Advertising

The Brazilian Journal of Oncology (BJO) adheres to the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding advertising. While the journal accepts commercial advertisements, editorial decisions are never influenced by advertising revenue or the interests of advertisers. A strict separation between editorial content and advertising is maintained to ensure the integrity of the scientific record.

Independence of Editorial Decisions

Advertisements must not, under any circumstances, influence editorial processes or decisions. The Editor-in-Chief and the editorial board maintain complete independence, making judgments based solely on the scientific quality and clinical merit of the submitted work.

Segregation of Content

Advertisements will not be placed adjacent to editorial material that discusses the same product or therapeutic class. This clear physical and visual separation prevents any perceived association between scientific findings and commercial promotional materials.

Transparent Advertisement Identification:

All advertisements must be easily recognizable and prominently labeled as “Advertisement” or an equivalent designation. Readers must be able to immediately distinguish between peer-reviewed scientific content and promotional materials..

Editorial Authority and Oversight

The Editor-in-Chief holds final authority over the approval and placement of all advertisements. The BJO reserves the right to decline or remove any advertisement that:

  • Is deemed inappropriate, misleading, or ethically questionable.
  • Is irrelevant to the field of oncology or the professional interests of our readership.
  • Promotes products proven to be harmful to health (e.g., tobacco or vaping products).
  • Does not comply with the regulatory standards of national and international health authorities, such as ANVISA (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária) in Brazil.

Scope of Guidelines

These policies apply to all journal platforms, including the digital platform, official website, printed issues, event promotions, and any other promotional activities associated with the BJO.

Enforcement of Advertising Policy

The editors are responsible for diligently upholding the journal’s advertising policies. Any violation of these guidelines will be promptly and appropriately addressed. The journal reserves the right to terminate advertising agreements if these ethical standards are not met.

Disclaimer

The appearance of an advertisement in the Brazilian Journal of Oncology does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee by the journal, its editors, or its affiliated societies (SBOC, SBCO, and SOBOPE) regarding the quality, value, or safety of the product or the claims made by the advertiser.
